Are Latin American ecologists recognized at the world level? A global comparison

Abstract Background Ioannidis et al. (2020) reported a standardized estimate of scientific productivity obtained from worldwide database 6,880,389 scientists who published at least 5 papers picked up by the Scopus database, and elaborated ranking ca. 120,000 both whole trajectory (career-long) impact their current year 2019. The goal our paper is to contextualize Latin American ecologists’ contribution world level based on four most scientifically productive countries in region. Methods findings proposed composite index that sum six scientometric indicators: (1) number allocites, (2) h index, (3) per capita corrected version , (4) allocites received as single author, (5) those + first (6) last author. We selected data for ecologists Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico comparatively analyzed according index. also compared these with global sample top worldwide. Conclusions Based al.’s proposition evaluate we extract three lessons: It does not pay publish many papers; what counts (i.e. self-citations do add up). Either be single, first, or author; it middle an authorship line. Even worse among co-authors because allocates credits basis.
